Importing garden machinery from China: a buyer's checklist
By the Arbora export team. Published . 8 min read.

1. Define the specification
Write down engine displacement, power, emission level, voltage and frequency for generators, bar or blade size, accessories, colours and the language of manuals and labels. A specification sheet signed by both sides prevents most disputes.
2. Test samples
Order samples of each model. Run them for several hours in conditions like your customers'. Check starting, idle, vibration, fuel consumption and the fit of spare parts.
3. Confirm certification
Ask which certificates apply to the exact model you are buying, for example CE for the European market or EURO II / EURO V engine emissions. Request copies and check the model numbers and dates.
4. Approve branding
OEM orders can usually change housing colour, decals, logo, manual and carton print. Approve final artwork in writing and keep a signed copy of the colour standard.
5. Plan packing and loading
Agree carton type, inner protection, cartons per pallet and how models will be mixed in the container. Mixed containers let smaller distributors test several categories in one shipment.
6. Inspect before shipment
Arrange a pre-shipment inspection by your own team or a third party. Typical checks: appearance, function test, labels and carton marks, and accessory completeness.
7. Check documents
Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin are standard. Some markets also require conformity certificates or pre-shipment verification.
How we work
We confirm specifications, branding and packing in writing for every order and send photos and test videos before loading. Ask us for our standard specification sheet when you request a quotation.
